Chhapaak: Deepika Padukone And Meghna Gulzar Will NOT Promote The Film In Delhi, Say, ‘It Will Be Insensitive

Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey’s upcoming film Chhapaak has created a stir after they released the first trailer of the film. Right from Deepika playing the acid attack survivor to fighting for justice, Meghna Gulzar ensured to keep every aspect of Laxmi Agarwal’s life in this film and well, she sure did a fabulous job. As a part of the tradition, as soon as the trailer is released, the makers start making their promotional plans so that the film reaches every nook and corner. Apparently, Chhapaak will not be promoted in Delhi and the reason behind is the Jamia Millia protest that has made the place chaotic.

Due to ongoing of Jamia Millia protest in Delhi, the makers of Chhapaak have cancelled the promoting in the capital. Deepika Padukone and Meghna Gulzar find it ‘insensitive.’ They released a statement saying that it would be insensitive to promote their film at a time when the nation and the city are going through an emotional upheaval and unrest. “We believe that it will be insensitive on our part to promote our film at a time when the nation and the city are going through an emotional upheaval and unrest. We pray for peace and harmony and regret the inconvenience caused by our absence but we hope you will understand” the statement read on Hindustan Times portal. Talking about Chhapaak, the film is based on the real-life acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal and through her story, the film makes an attempt to understand the on-ground consequences of surviving an acid attack in India. Deepika plays Malti in the film who was attacked with acid on a street in New Delhi, in 2005. Chhapaak is set to hit theatres on 10th January 2020.
